‘Adults not writing wills’ reveals survey
27th April 2010 by: David Maxwell
The majority of British adults and cohabitating couples have not written a will, according to research published this spring.
An online YouGov poll found that 58% of adults have not made a Will whilst the figure for cohabiting couples is a huge 74%.
Commenting on the results, David Maxwell, Head of the Private Client department at Seddons, said that making a Will is the best way of ensuring that family and loved ones receive their fair share and that one of the main reasons many individuals do not do so is that they wrongly believe that their money will pass to these individuals automatically .
Properly detailing the distribution of one’s estate by making a legally binding will is essential when planning for an unpredictable future and is a much less expensive and far simpler process than many people imagine.
So the advice to the 58% without a Will is: you have worked hard for it – make a Will and ensure that you make life a little better for your loved ones when you’re no longer around.
