DRS Seminar
16th June 2008 by: Simon Jacobs
Simon Jacobs, a partner in Seddons Dispute Resolution team, will be speaking at a Seminar of the Law Society's Dispute Resolution Section on Third party Funding, sharing the platform with Christian Stuerwald of Allianz Litigation Funding. Simon recently successfully acted on a major dispute that went to trial with the benefit of third party funding and is presently dealing with a number of cases in their early stages. Allianz Litigation Funding opened an office in London in November 2002 and has successfully funded litigation in Europe for the last decade. The seminar concerns whether Third Party Funding is the way forward. Simon is a firm proponent for the proposition and considers that the potential market has barely been touched. The issue is a "hot topic"; Addleshaw Goddard last week announced its third party funding package and other leading firms are making use of such products. Simon's view is that recent media coverage highlights only one area and that funding of this nature should be available for claims that businesses and individuals regularly face and not limited to disputes where the value is calculated in the multi-millions.
