The Licensing Act 2003 brought together numerous outdated licensing related regimes and created a single Act that controlled alcohol supply and sale, late night refreshment and regulated entertainment.  Unfortunately, parts of the Act created new problems for those wishing to hold entertainment events.

Seddons exhibited at The Showman’s Show for the first time this year.  The Showman’s Show is the UK’s most comprehensive exhibition of products, services and entertainments for the outdoor and special event industry.  The Show took place over two days at Newbury Show Ground, Chieveley, Berkshire.  The 2011 Show featured over 300 exhibitors and attracted almost 5,000 visitors from all over the UK and further afield.

Seddons Solicitors have recently obtained a Premises Licence for a new festival on the Isle of Wight to be called WOW Fest. The festival organisers spent two years searching for a suitable festival site. The event is to be staged on the south side of the island between Shanklin Road and Whiteley Bank.

Property Dispute Resolution & Enfranchisement Partner, John Midgley, recently spoke at a leaseholders roadshow organised by the "Flat Living" magazine.

He gave a presentation (on behalf of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners) about leaseholders right to manage under the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002.

He summarised its benefits and explained how it can work as a first step for flat owners who are interested in acquiring the freehold of their building.

Seddons partner in 600km bicycle ride from Vietnam to Cambodia. Marvin Simons, head of the dispute resolution team at Seddons, raised a significant amount of money for two charities when he cycled 600km (around 370 miles) from Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia at the end of November.
