At Seddons, we take the matter of your training very seriously indeed – after all, your training contract represents perhaps the two most crucial years in your new career.

We will guide you as quickly as possible through the transition from inexperienced student to practised professional, encouraging your individual talents every step of the way. We will help you to emerge from your training contract confidently familiar with all aspects of what it means to work in a professional modern practice.

We are proud that many of our fee-earners, associates and partners trained with us and it is our policy to offer trainees a full-time position once they qualify (subject to availability and candidate suitability).

The size of our firm allows us to offer a few trainee opportunities each year. Our selection process commences in January with consideration of all applications that have not been previously rejected. We only consider applications from degree holders with a 2:1 class and above. We do not have a preference for a law degree as opposed to another subject. From this initial selection process we invite up to twenty applicants to attend interviews.

From these interviews, we then shortlist four to five applicants and invite them to spend a day or two at our London office to work with selected fee-earners who will act as assessors. In advance, we usually ask applicants to submit a short written paper on two topics that will be discussed on one of the attendance days. Based on our assessment, we then make our final selections and the successful applicants will begin their training in September.

We try to ensure an equal amount of training in each of our departments and, although we are unable to run professional skills courses in-house, we send our trainees on courses run by qualified external organisations.

We do not offer financial support to prospective trainees for pre-training education and expenditure - but we do pay for PSC fees.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Each year, we try to offer a few summer vacancy and work experience opportunities. If you would like to be considered, applications should be made to our HR Manager in April. However, because of the high number of applications we receive, it is not our policy to reply unless we have an upcoming vacancy.

If you have applied for a training position with us and would also like to be considered for work experience, please make a separate application in April.
