This team provides the firm’s corporate clients with support when disputes occur - the team regularly is involved in disputes regarding contract law, company and insolvency law, professional negligence, intellectual property law and partnerships.
The team prides itself on looking at disputes from a commercial, as well as legal, angle and never loses sight of the client’s commercial objective. We recognise the importance of understanding our client’s business. In order that our clients can make an informed choice as to how to proceed we consider cost and all available funding options. The team will always consider mediation, negotiation and expert determination to resolve disputes before the costs get out of hand. If these options prove insufficient, the team has an excellent track record for successfully litigating cases in English Courts and foreign jurisdictions.
Seddons has developed a particular expertise in banking and lending work. The firm acts for lenders on large scale debt recovery. Seddons also acts for a number of clients including several Italian local authorities in defending complex claims brought against them by financial institutions.
The team has been entrepreneurial in developing an insurance product which covers a client from having to meet, from its own resources, the other side’s legal bills. The department is looking to develop and market other insurance products so that the firm’s clients are not denied access to justice if their opponent has, and is exploiting, its ‘deeper pockets’
