New Lease Extension Rights for Head Lessees
John Midgley, Property Dispute Resolution Partner at Seddons has written an article for "UK Landlord" detailing important new rights for investors in residential property. This follows the recent landmark House of Lords case dealing with lease extensions on two large prime Central London estates which concluded that a head lessee can claim the benefit of a lease extension even if they own the flat as an investment (so long as the right could not be exercised by a flat owner with a long underlease).
