New Music Festival for the Isle of Wight in 2012
Seddons Solicitors have recently obtained a Premises Licence for a new festival on the Isle of Wight to be called WOW Fest. The festival organisers spent two years searching for a suitable festival site. The event is to be staged on the south side of the island between Shanklin Road and Whiteley Bank.
The application for a Premises Licence was opposed and over 130 objections were lodged. The objectors cited a range of concerns including noise levels, damage to property, public safety and traffic congestion. There were so many objections that a new venue for the hearing had to be located. Some of the concerns and objections were discussed and solutions were sought prior to the hearing. The Application was heard by the Isle of Wight Licensing Authority on 22 September 2011. The Licensing Sub-Committee heard evidence from the Applicants, the responsible authorities and some of the objectors.
Seddons were successful in obtaining a Premises Licence and the first WOW Fest will take place between 17 and 19 August 2012 when 18,000 festival goers can attend.
WOW Fest is founded on a sustain ability policy and is the only festival site in Europe with a 23 mile cycle track - the Sunshine Trail - running through it. As a result; the organisers are encouraging festival goers to travel to the festival by bicycle and arrangements will be made to transport luggage from the ferry terminals to the festival site.
WOW Fest will be a celebration of world music, dance and culture will be the third largest festival on the Isle of Wight. The organisers are working closely with the island's bus provider, Southern Vectis who are offering unlimited bus travel on the island to festival goers.
