5 steps to surviving divorce
There are no “quick-fix” solutions to an “easy” divorce. However, in our experience there are 5 basic tips to help you come through a divorce in as healthy a way as possible:
- Don’t use the children. It’s easy for the children to become caught between arguing parents but this will only heighten the impact of the divorce on them. Leave any discussions to when the children aren’t around and don’t denigrate your spouse in front of the children.
- Don’t ask friends to take sides. Your family and real friends will be with you throughout, supporting you through the ordeal.
- Keep structure to your life. Routine brings assurance that not everything in your life is changing.
- Don’t drink too much. It’s easy to increase your alcohol intake during times of pressure but this usually only causes another problem.
- Take regular exercise and eat healthily. Your body needs to be in good condition to take the emotional pressure you are going through.
