Neil Russell gives his expert opinion on cohabitating couples in the Guardian.
With the number of opposite-sex couples who choose not to marry on the rise, Family Partner Neil Russell emphasises the need for parliament to provide legal protection to cohabitees on the breakdown of their relationship.
The research also found that the number of same-sex couple families has grown by more than 50% since 2015, and the number of same-sex married couple families has risen more than fourfold.
Neil states, “Parliament needs to legislate, but in the meantime people need to be informed of the potential dangers of not securing their position in the event of a relationship coming to an end, on the breakup or death of a party.”
