Following the introduction of the Shared Parental Leave (SPL) regime, employers have seen little to no requests from employees to utilise the leave. In fact, the Department of Business reported that in February 2018, the number of couples taking SPL “could be as low as 2%,” while 285,000 couples were eligible.
