David explained that the latest figures, which show a fall in the number of married people aged 16 or over when compared to 2022 and 2021, are an indication that people are waiting until they are more settled to wed. “People put off settling down for longer, looking at settling instead for when the time is right; big decisions like the cost of buying a house and bringing up children push weddings down the list until the couples can afford it.”
