Rory Lynch Represents Martin Lewis in Facebook Scam Advert Settlement23 Jan 2019 // In the press
Rory successfully represented Martin Lewis in a defamation lawsuit against Facebook.
Defamation and Privacy Solicitor Rory Lynch represented Martin Lewis, the founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, in a £3m settlement in relation to over 1,000 fraudulent adverts using Martin’s name and image in get-rich-quick schemes.
Martin has announced today that he has dropped the defamation law suit after almost a year. As part of the settlement, Facebook has agreed to donate the £3m to charity, and plans to launch a dedicated new scam-ad reporting tool, which will debut this May.
On the settlement, Rory remarked “This ground-breaking defamation suit was pioneered by Mark Lewis and Seddons and reflects Martin’s passion for protecting the public from scam adverts. Martin took on significant risk in order to make Facebook confront this pernicious practice. This action led to an innovative agreement that sets an important precedent for other industry players to follow.”
